Tango Avalon
Managers: AJ Spencer and Loki Lebedenko
What to expect:
Tango at the Avalon will be in partnership with Joseph Snowhawk's Thursday dance sessions. We will be contributing tango lessons and a DJed milonga every second and fourth Thursday of the month, with more sessions likely to come in the future, so stay tuned! Also featured at these sessions are bachata, salsa, rueda, and west coast swing, with new dances being added constantly.

Our lessons are going to be beginner-friendly, but informative to all levels, so whether you are a few years into tango, or experiencing tango for the first time, we have some to share with you!

The milonga session is 50/50, which means that the tandas will be alternating between traditional and alternative. The tanda structure will still have cortinas, so be warned: they will be crazy.

And for those experiencing tango for the first time: some definitions:
Tandas: sets of 3-4 songs that you dance with the same partner. You don't need to do the whole tanda, but you are expected to finish the tanda with the same partner.
Cortina: a song snippet signaling the end of a tanda. Usually something that is very recognizable as non-tango.
Alternative Tango: anything you can dance to that wasn't intended to be tango music, but works.
Traditional tango: originating in the early 1900s and both written and performed with tango in mind.

Payment:
Joseph Snowhawk accepts the payment for this event. it is $15 for both lesson and dance, which can be paid with Venmo or Cash.

Policies:
As with all productions by Tango Futuro, we are guided by both the Tango Futuro Safer Spaces Policy, the Tango Futuro Operations Policy and the Tango Futuro Volunteer Policy. Full versions can be found on the "About" tab on this site. The shorthand version of the policies are that we strive to create a space where people can feel safe and comfortable and will be treated fairly by our organization. This program is also in partnership with Snowhawk Productions, whose policies and website can be found here: https://www.dancelaughlove.com/

Philosophy:
This series aims to bring tango both to the local Boulder community but also to the vibrant communities of salsa, bachata, and west coast swing. We believe that the culture of tango is tied to the music, but that to appreciate the culture, some deviation is required, so we will combine both traditional tango and alternative in our DJ's music. We want to bring tango to the masses, and what better place to introduce tango than in a multi-dance space that already exists.
